Everyone of us has a dream. It is what motivates us in the darkest hours. But I think different people have different dream. They have different wishes and aspirations. I want to know why they have that dream, what pushes them forward and what holds them back. I want to know more about their life and what’s behind.

I believe our journey represents what UWC stands for. We want to bring people from all over the world closer to each other by sharing and spreading the thoughts of humans. Nationality or the social class don’t matter, all that counts are the ideas of every individual and their perception of life. We want to pass on those thoughts with our bikes and to all those that we don’t encounter on our journey by our blog.

Personally I see the meaning in our trip for myself to reflect about what it is to be human. I want to listen to people and learn about what dreams they have and what gives them purpose.

Raghdan Al-Hennawi

We've had some changes to our team, Raghdan will be joining us instead of Samuel! Here's what he has to say about why he's doing the Silk Road.

In our globalised world, there is a significant raise in connectedness between nations, as well as information and knowledge transcending time and geographical barriers.

However, it's fundamental to know that our perception of the world surrounding us should stem from our micro understanding of every unit that creates its entity. Instead of the current macro understanding as we usually tend to follow the common narrative about some nations and cultures, that we become obvious of their uniqueness and real essance.

This journey through many different countries will allow us not merely to break the stereotypes about these countries. But also, to shed the light on other narratives and look at the world from totally different perspectives.

Only by becoming aware of these difervent existing perspectives, we can realise how close we are as people to one another.

Cycling on a bike will give me the opportunity to maximise our engagement with the local communities more than any other means of transport, and explore both the architectural and geographical sites throughout the journey with the most freedom. It will also allow us to live the UWC values of sustainability and care for environment while travelling on zero carbon fingerprint.

Urbanization has swept away our culture and heritage, I want to see the differences that exist within rural and urban middle Asia and contrast it with the Indian subcontinent.

I want to go on this trip to discover what life could be like living on a bicycle, meeting new people who don’t speak your language, listening to their stories and learning from them.
